There are several like this from various makers. It is a very sensitive
powder scale (typically 0.1 grain accuracy, (7000 grains in a pound)) that
has a cable or an infrared link to a powder dispenser. The dispenser is
calibrated to your powder. The scale is set to your desired powder charge
weight. Then each powder charge is automatically weighed. Your shells are
already prepped and primed. You weigh out a charge, dump the powder in to
the shell, and seat a bullet on it.
The scale is so sensitive that you do not use it near an air conditioner or
fan. The air movement will cause inaccurate charges.
For your amusement, I use 24.8 grains of VARGET powder in a compressed
charge for 77gr .223 ammo. A difference of 0.1 grains of powder will cause
a .223 77 grain bullet to be 40 feet/second faster or slower, nominal being
2700 feet/second. This difference of 40 f/s can cause the bullet to be
nearly 5 inches higher or lower at 600 yards. This can be the difference
between a deep 9 or an X. I am 5 points short of making master class. It
matters!
Just to keep it legal, I would never dream of putting powder in any ICOM. I
save that for kenwoods.
I answered this figuring others would like to know too. But if we stray too
far off, Dick will reload his finger and give us a powder with the delete
key. Any other questions, lets go direct.
Mike.
