[ICOM] Installing a FL52A

Hi Gary,

I used to just call them "sockets" but since we
started to use them in a manufacturing job here at
work, and our supplier calls them "pin receptacles" I
have gotten acclimated to the new term, hi.

I am pretty sure most of the major houses such as
Newark, Digikey, etc. carry them if anyone needs to
buy them. Probably would be cheaper, though, to get
them from ICOM (even at a higher piece price) due to
minimum order requirements at most suppliers. The
price per piece would be higher, but you could buy
smaller quantities from ICOM.

In case anyone is interested, the older (and taller)
FL-52 (500 Hz BW) and FL-53 (250 Hz) 455 KHz option CW
filters can be used in the 756 too, but the
installation is a bit different. The spring clip for
the filter body must be removed from the PCB, as it is
designed for a lower height filter can, and it also
adds a bit of extra height which won't allow
installation of the older, taller versions of the
option 455 KHz filters. The pin receptacles must also
be removed from the PCB and the filter then can be
installed in the "normal" way via soldering the pins
to the PCB and using the supplied nuts to secure the
filter to the PCB. Of course, the PCB must be removed
to accomplish this. After installation, the top of the
filter is exactly the same height as the top of the
surrounding chassis well it sits in. The upper case of
the radio rests on the top of the chassis when
installed, and this is the limiting factor for filter
height in the 756.

There are some pix of a 756 I did in this manner,
using an FL-53, on Adam Farson's ICOM site.
