George & all: You did not say what type radios your frequent qso buddies are using. If a radio is equipped with a front panel quick alignment control, there is likely a reason for it to be included, which is to enable those with a need for better accuracy in frequency adjustment to do so. Older radios are just that. Older radios with older technology and older components. Most simply do not measure up with the newer technology radios. vintage radios may require more frequent tweaking than do newer radios. Good luck, Larry K4LXV
