[ICOM] Icom PW-1 on AM?

Hello all,
 
Wanted to see what other folks may have experienced running the the Icom
PW-1 on AM.
I have been having problems where the audio seems to be clipped or even
disappear when operating on 160 meters.
Seems to work just fine on SSB and CW.
 
I have set the ALC as suggested, just to confirm as I am running on 120 vac,
the ALC should still be set to the ALC mark?
So should I retard the ALC and therefore the output power if I am running on
AM?
I know this is not a rig problem as I can use the 765 without the amp and
experience no problem.
 
Set up is as follows:
Icom 765
160 meter dipole feed with balanced line
Heathkit 2060 transmatch
Icom PW-1 running on 120 vac
