Igor, Hans,

Many thanks for the comments. It all comes down to this: we choose our radio
equipment in accordance with our operating environments and needs. I do not
contest at all (except for Field Day, and then always on our club's radios),
but I do keep in touch with friends in various parts of North America under
propagation conditions which range from armchair copy to "indescribably
rotten". As this is an unhurried, non-stressful activity, I have all the
time in the world to adjust the DSP controls. I am also somewhat involved
with the Icom Net, where the same wide variation in signal quality applies.

In addition, I have grown so used to the visual dimension provided by the
spectrum scope that in future, my main station transceiver will always
include a scope.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ
