[ICOM] R7000 dumb question of the day

Hello. I've been having a lot of fun with my 'new' R7000. I use it with an
RS discone (until I get my towers up) and for 50-900 Mhz, I use a Channel
Master TV preamp, which works really well.
I was in Lowe's today, and noticed they had a VERY small preamp for 900 Mhz
to 2 Ghz, for $16. 13 db gain claimed.
My question is this:
It is a 'power through' model. No power connections available. Obviously,
they send 12 VDC up the coax to power it. I assume it would be easy to put a "T"
connector before the preamp and supply it with 12 VDC via a small choke. My
R7000 service manual is on the way, but am I to assume that providing 12 VDC
to the input side of the preamp will also place 12 VDC on the ant connector
of the R7000? Am I also correct in assuming that the R7000 will have a DC
blocking cap early in the signal path, after the antenna connector? I sure don't
want to put 12 VDC into the radio and 'smoke it'. I was going to put a low
voltage ohmmeter on the N connector, but with my luck, I'll take out the front
end of the radio! I have noticed that the IF output, has a DC voltage
superimposed on the 10.7 Mhz signal.....
thanks in advance!
