Greetings;
I have been following this thread with some interest.
We (Montgomery County, TX ARES) have a motorcycle contingent for
operations during public service events. I and most of the group have
been using the IC 2720H for quite some time. Only one, purchased early,
has had the driver problem. All the others have been excellent
performers. This in spite of adverse conditions, mechanically and
electrically, such as severe vibration and lack of sufficient antenna
ground plane.
As far as the utility of the IC 2720H, we have been pleased with its'
many features. Perhaps one contributory factor to it's' perceived
susceptibility to intermodulation is its more sensitive receiver
compared to some other popular models and manufacturers. As far as
intermodulation and desensitization problems go, I find mine no worse
than many other dual band mobiles; better than some I have tried.
IMHO: It is an engineering feat yet to be accomplished (perhaps
eventually with DSP) to have broad bandwidth, high sensitivity and good
intermodulation rejection.
