[ICOM] R7000 question

Ok, here's a dumb question.
 
I recently purchased a mint R7000 and I am thrilled with it. Never having  
owned a scanner before, my question has to do with using the Programmed Scan. I  
am setting up one of the channels to scan the aircraft band. I have managed 
to  set the low and high limits, but the radio does not seem to remember the 
mode,  AM.
 
When I switch the channel for aircraft, the display is blank, which is  
another strange aspect. Pushing the Prog button, the correct low limit of 118  Mhz 
pops up but it is always in FM Mode.
I realize that one must select the channel spacing of 25 Khz manually, but  
why won't it remember the AM  Mode? All my other memory (not scan) channels  
remember the correct mode, along with the desired frequency.
 
I've been going through the manual, but it's very confusing concerning it's  
scanning ability. The manual also says nothing about why channels with  
programmed scan come up blank..... It would be nice if the display would  indicate 
the start freq.....
