[ICOM] ICOM2100H mikes

I wonder if there are any 2100 gurus out there that have an idea about this.

I have two IC2100H both bought new from HRO about a year apart , one came
with the HM133S mike , the other with apparently the old HM98S (although
nowhere can I find HM98S on the mike anywhere ).

My grandson was playing with feeding packet signals into his IC2100H mic
input socket which has the HM98S mike and apparently damaged something - so
the HM98S would not key or modulate his 2100 anymore.

The weird thing is that HM98S mike works fine on my IC2100H although the TX
audio level is slightly lower but very usable.

Further , my HM133S mike works fine on his IC2100H which won't work anymore
with the HM98 ! I also checked most of the mic key pad functions and they
seem to all work fine .

I made up a plug so I could check open circuit voltages on all pins of both
IC2100H front panel mic connections and the voltages are within millivolts
of each other. I have NOT checked voltages with a mic connected becaue have
not made that sort of cable.

Is there something weird between the HM133S and teh old HM98 ? . My IC2100H
came with an addenda sheet simply saying the HM133S is redesigned from the
HM98S.

I am planning on buying him a HM133S mic but have a small concern his TX
might damage the new HM133S although at least for short periods it had not
hurt my HM133S - although as I said , the open circuit voltages on the mic
pins are the same on both rigs so I guess I should be safe .

 Thanks for any info - 73 - Hank K7HP
