Early units had a premature failure of the transmit driver transistor due
to a faulty soldering technique(the transistor has to be literally
soldered to the heatsink). Icom has been repairing those units even out of
warranty. Other than that mine was reliable. It's a little harder to
program than some of the brand "Y" and "K" rigs and has a funky memory
bank system that is hard to arrange. I never tried the computer
programming software which may make those peculiarities insignificant. I
ran mine with the control head attached to the top of the 706 head. The
display color and fonts are very near identical to the 706 and made a neat
installation.
