Thanks for the reply and to those who offered to supply the 1 ufd 50v 
component. I did have some BiPolar 2 ufd @ 50 v and installed one of 
them. I burned the radio in and then checked it with my test gear to see 
if the circuit would tolerate the additional capacitance. The radio 
appears to be working A OK.

The reason I did not use two 2 ufd in series to obtain the correct value 
  is a space issue. The ones I have are axial lead and a bit to tall 
when stood on end.

BTW: the 271H and my 1271 have the Roberto Nardo boards. Work great!
No paranoia regarding losing the operating system because of a dead battery.
