I talked to icom america today...as I have my pw in for service due to a
tuner failure...they say they know nothing about this mod

Just to let you know that, after a lot of failure at least
here in Europe, ICOM Japan released a technical note about the
PW1. Some equipment suffered of mosfet's burning and the
engineers assert it depends from a RF feedback in the LPF
board. In some circumstances the RF can produce a false
reading by the logic circuit that switch some relays on or
off in the wrong way. This produce high SWR on the PA module
and the consequent burning.
The modification consist in soldering some capacitors on the
LPF board.
Unfortunately I've just seen the message from ICOM Japan but
I wasn't able to pick up a copy or take in-deep note.
