[ICOM] RE: Which radio to buy

As someone who repaired many radios in the city for some of the locals, I
will tell you this. (my experience only).

ICOM is wonderful - getting parts and tech help is only a phone call away.
Gary and Mitch were what kept my MARS station running during Gulf War-I.
Thanks Gary... And Mitch too - wherever you are.

YAESU isn't too bad either - they have gone the extra mile for me a time or
two to get parts that were not readily available.

KENWOOD - where to start? Lets just say that for a while now I have refused
to work on Kenwood equipment. No-how for no-body. The people that were in
parts needed lessons on how to deal with people. Attila the Hun would have
been an improvement in manners. And it wasn't just once either. Rumor back
then was Kenwood was getting out of the HF business. Not much customer
satisfaction?

The others, I have not had enough dealings with Alinco, Ten-Tec, or any
others to form a real opinion one way or another.

For me - ICOM isn't perfect (The first of you who is can rebut this), but
they are the best for all I deal with. This is why I and my entire family
stick with ICOM. Of course, ICOM can ruin that rep in a short time if they
are not careful.

Again, JMHO - from my own experience over the last 20 years or so.
