Au contraire, John. I don't remember the full range of
the 2710 but it receives at least from 118-174 and 400-
50 or even more. I can't remember. It IS subject to
intermod in dense RF environments. I highly recommend
the ICE notch filters. Even going throught the downtown
Oklahoma City area on I-40 I hardly ever get a peep anymore.
I really love mine. Much more convenient to operate and
program than my 2720.

Everyone,
Thanks for all the comments on this topic and special thanks to "Mac" for
telling me how to fix it. I found a pristine 2710 and bought it because I
needed a mobile and everyone has been saying how much trouble they have been
having with the current model 2720--and how great the 2710 was. The 2710 is
really a nice radio but I could tell something was up when I saw later model
207s being shipped with a different mic. My goal was to get something
durable, which the radio appears to be. Many of the newer models are not
built that well and after a few years in a mobile environment, they tend to
develop problems. It is true that it is much more difficult to change a
surface mount resistor than to tweak a pot. But if the rig will work
perfectly after that it will be a worthwhile fix. The sensitivity is great
and power output seems to be fine. And it is also great that you can do so
many functions from this HM-98 mic. I also prefer the 2710 because it DOES
NOT have extended receive. Mobiles with extended receive almost always have
more intermod problems than those that do not.
Thanks again for all the comments on my question. The comments were very
informative and helpful.
