[ICOM] IC-02AT Problem

Just had a wierd thing happen to my IC-02AT handheld yesterday.  When I
turned it on a very high pitched squeal came out of the speaker.  The LCD
readout went all wonkey and fragmented and keypad would not work.  The radio
still transmits and receives fine. And, the squeal is transmitted with the
RF signal.   I talked to one of the techs at ICOM who said he has never
heard of a fault like this.  Has any one on the list seen this before?  Any
help or suggestions would be most welcome.  

I have checked the internal lithium battery and performed a CPU reset, all
with no joy.

I'm not sure if I want to send it in for repair.  It may cost more that this
old radio is worth<grin>.
