Check the battery voltage to the radio. I found that mine was susceptable to distortion when the volts get low. Check the fuse sockets when running a full carrier and see if they are warming up. The spring clips get tired after time and then the voltage drop across the fuses gets high. I swapped mine with blade fuses and never had the problem again, apart from flat battery in contest situations - when on picks athe wrong battery off the pile in the garage...

Subject: [ICOM] Icom 706 MK IIG distortion
Need benefit of your experience with Ic706 MK IIG.
I have an Icom 706 MKIIG driving a Metron amplifier in
my mobile. I have one setup in my motorhome and the
audio and signal are clean. I have another identical
setup in my Saturn Station Wagon. The rigs are
identical even down to both using the DK3 screwdriver
antenna.
The rig in the Saturn has "fuzzy" audio on transmit. I
suspect RF getting back into the 706 in some manner. I
have only tried the rig on 40 meters since installing
it in the Saturn, and that is where I am experiencing
the problem.I have had the same mobile rig in several
vehicles and the only time I had a problem before this
was when operating with the separation kit in a Nissan
Pickup truck. The digital readout would go in and out
when transmitting.I placed a ferrite bead on the
separation cable right at the remoted front panel and
the problem disappeared. I hear a faint feedback in
the external speaker I am using in the Saturn when i
am transmitting .
If you have had a similar problem with the Icom 706 MK
IIG, I would appreciate the benefit of your results
and what you did to clear the problem . Would also
like to determine the cause of the problem. Thanks for
reading and lending me the benefit of your experience.
