Hi, I agree with Dave, AA9TT comments.  I have a 746 and recently upgraded to a PRO III.  There is am amazing difference in the back ground noise level between the two radios.  I like you like to fine tune the received audio for my listening pleasure.  The PRO III comes with a bunch more adjustments and settings than my 746.  Even with all the filters added to the 746 the default setup on the PRO III is much better.

If your the type of person that likes to have adjustments to set and set again then the PRO III is the radio.
