[ICOM] 756 pro III or Ten Tec Orion

A minor point concerning the Orion; the "ORION is equipped with a total of
seven available crystal roofing filter slots. Four of the seven crystal
roofing filters are standard; three are optional. The standard roofing
filters included are 20 kHz, 6 kHz, 2.4 kHz, and 1 kHz." I installed the
additional three optional roofing filters, which I am in the process of
ordering an INRAD to replace the optional TenTec's 500Hz filter that I
installed.

As far as price, I don't remember paying 4300 dollars for the radio, the
optional tuner and the optional three filters. Current TenTec prices would
put the Orion at $3926 for those options; just about 500 dollars less than
the stated 4300 dollars.

I own two Icoms (765 and 775DSP) and they are sitting next to the Orion; but
the ORION blows both of them away in crowded contest and Dxpedition
conditions (it's that close in dynamic range that the Orion is designed
for).

Normally I wouldn't talk about other manufactures radios on this list, and I
apologize for doing so. I believe that the 'minor' corrections had to be
made.

I have a PRO III -- to configure a Orion with all the filters and antenna
tuner plan on spending $4300> I think the ORION is a great receiver but the
price difference for your operating style may not be worth it. I like the
PRO III - I have owned all the PRO's and the III is by far the best. The
only thing I would add is the roofing filter you find in the 7800 and
optionally in the ORION.

Would like your alls input. Should I start saving for a Pro III or an Orion?
I am a very casual ragchewer\dxer, rarely work CW and listen to SW utilities
quite often. I have really enjoyed the tools on the 746 pro when listening
and like tailoring my audio out. I have no experience with Ten Tec. What
are the pros and cons of the Pro III and Orion under my parameters of use?
