[ICOM] R7000 Lithium backup battery?

Hello,
I recently took ownership of an IC-R7000.
I'm concerned about the onboard backup battery.
I've read that if this battery dies then my R7000 will be unusable as
the battery is used to maintain data that the radio needs to boot.
Is this info true??
Or does the battery simply backup only the user entered memory channel
info and if it goes dead then the radio would still function normally
minus being able to store memory data during a power loss?
I see posts that mention swapping the battery live so as not to loose
the 3 VDC to the memory circuit.
Naturally I don't want to loose my radio and I'm not sure as to the age
of my battery so I'll most likely change it soon but I'm worried about
loosing the data needed to operate the radio.
I have very good soldering skills but "suppose!" that I accidentally
slip and disconnect the old battery before I solder the new one into the
circuit, will my radio no longer operate??
And, if this happens then what options are available to get it restored?
Send to Icom?
I recall that this was a problem with some other model that did in fact
use the battery to maintain the boot code or OS if you can call it that.
Either way, I'm just looking for the facts on the R7000 and if I need to
be concerned of this when I do change the battery.
Also, what is the recommended battery to use. I'm assuming one of the
common 3 volt Lithium coin cells but not sure as to the physical size.
Thanks All!
