Actually, I think Icom understands heat way better than some of their 
competitors, e.g. Yaesu.  I like it much that Icoms can run full power, full 
duty cycle.  I've done RTTY contesting for several years with my 706MKIIG - 
It gets hot as a pistol, but it's never failed.  To me, it's apparently 
designed to take the heat and keep on ticking.  Yaesu, however, always 
recommends half-power.  So maybe Yaesu will last 200 years and my Icom will 
only last 100 years?  OK.  ;-)

P.S.  Similar comments for the PROII, and the PW-1 is perfect - NO 
noticeable heat even with prolonged full-duty KW!  Even the Quadra recs 
half-power in full duty.
