[ICOM] Icom 781 heat problem

Hi Sam,
There is an alternative: Reduce the mains supply voltage to 100V, using a
Variac or bucking transformer. This will reduce the dissipation of the shunt
regulator in the power supply by a whopping 44%.
I would not recommend drilling holes in the IC-7800 cabinet. The radio is
fast becoming a classic, and such modifications will greatly diminish its
resale value. You can probably fabricate a copy of the PSU heatsink cover
plate, as in the Sherwood mod, cut the necessary holes in your copy, and
mount a small muffin fan on that.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ
