Clete, do you have a receive antenna (beverage) connected directly to the RX
input? RF overload from your transmit signal could cause problems like you

Every time I key and unkey my IC-756ProII
it makes the white noise and QRN sound a bit
different as if I'm switching filters or
changing the receive attenuator.

That was 75 Meter SSB which I rarely monitor,
and I didn't notice it acting that way on
the frequencies I usually use.  It doesn't
change the receive frequency, just the band
pass and sensitivity characteristics, and not
a lot but noticeable.
