I agree. I used the Heil Pro set quiet phone all weekend during the ARRL CW
test. It is the best headset I have ever used.

Best headphone I have found for HF. Heil Pro Set Quiet Phone.

http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/pro_set_quiet_phone.htm

I got mines with the iC element to match the earlier Icom radios
including the IC-706 MK II G, which is my current workhorse.

Great transmit and receive audio. Has the quietphone
active noise cancellation feature, but I find I really
don't use that much. For some reason, if I leave it
on after a couple of hours, I develop a slight headache.
However, I did use the quiet feature successfully for pulling
in very faint HF DX in a parked mobile. I worked a
station in Missouri who wanted Hawaii bad for WAC,
and WAS. Spent 8 hours over two days in the mobile
and it turned out there was a very big X flare which
shutdown HF. The noise cancellation helped to
remove the nearby road and wind noise.

Of course, it's a Heil Sound headset with it's legacy
of good RX and TX audio and fit, and interchangable
accessories. Best feature on this unit was the honor of
buying it from Mrs. Heil at Dayton 2004. The product
had just been announced a couple weeks earlier. As soon
as the arena doors opened, I made a beeline to the booth
and made sure I secured one of these to take home.

Hook it up to a W2IHY equalizer, the IC-706 MKIIG,
with 1.8 Khz SSB filter, Clearspeach DSP filter
and you can't go wrong equipment-wise on HF.
(Yes, you can route the DSP audio into the headset,
which adds sanity to all that HF noise you'll hear.)
While it's no IC-7800 or Pro 3, it packs a mean
DX/contesting punch in a small, portable/mobile
package.

For the IC-7800, we used the "regular" Proset and
that was a fabulous combo. Since we had that rig
on loan, I didn't have much time to really get into
it and find all the nuances of the rig-headphone
combination. We did not hook up the Quetphone
to the 7800 now that I think about it. It
was a CW contest weekend at a home so there
was not as much to be gained with the active
noise cancellation. (It's certainly not easy
to operate a IC-7800 from the driver's seat
while the rig is placed on the back seat.)
