[ICOM] More thinking going on.

Sunday Morning. It is getting pretty smoky here in the shack. I have been
thinking again. Here is my problem.

I have an IC-706 next to my bed. I use it for AM-BCB listening and some
late-night 80m, and local 2m repeaters. I have a lot of memories programmed
into it.

A very good friend is getting an IC-706. He asked me for a list of my
memories. I don't have a list. He asked if I can clone them into his radio
for him. (I am impressed he knows about cloning at 82 y/o) Well, anyone
who has programmed memories into a 706 by hand knows it ain't easy. I did
it by hand a few years ago. WHEW!!!

I have a computer tied to a CI-V unit in the shack. I hate to pull the 706
apart from the bedroom just to download the memories. The 706 main chassis
and P/S is in the closet, the control head, speaker, mic etc is on the night
stand. But I could do it, I guess - if I had software. It would be a PITA
though.

Something I do have is the OPC-478 cable. It is used to program the
IC-W32A. I just got to thinking - would the OPC-478 work as a single-line
CI-V? If so, I can put it on my laptop computer and download my memories,
then carry the laptop to his 706 and dump it all in.

So - Gary, Adam, Clif, and all you others.....

A. Will the OPC-478 act as a single-line CI-V?
B. What software will work best with the 706? I have tried a few before,
but with little satisfaction.

Thanks - you guys are great.
