I had also a quite good experience with GP batteries of the NiMeHi variety.
If you file lightly the nickel off the base and the top cap, you can solder
it very easily with regular solder. It comes a bit of shock when you start
using one battery and it holds a whole day!
BTW, GP has AAA batteries with a capacity of 850mA/h and 10 of these fit
almost in any case. I even converted a 650mA/h 7.2V battery to 12 volts for
my IC-24AT, at 850mA/h. Now I can get full output from the radio and for me,
living as I do about 30 miles from the nearest repeater, the extra power is
more than needed for reliable communications.
