I have been a long time Icom user and very much love
Icom equipment. I currently have both a 706 MkIIG and
a 746 Pro. I have been considering an upgrade and
have been looking at the 756 Pro 3 and the Tentec
Orion. I am a big DX nut and, although I love my
Icoms, the concept of the narrow front end roofing
filters on the Tentec and more manual control of the
radio, along with positive reports from some of the
top DX'ers, have got me wondering if the Orion is the
better DX radio and worth the extra $1k investment.

Will you please give me your feedback based on what
you've experienced and heard?

Hi Gary,

The TT Orion has the best receiver on the market today. (check all the lab
results, by others)

It is my understanding, from independent lab results, that the Prolll is
only a fraction better than the Proll.

The Prolll costs $2995.00 new, no options other than standard.

The TT Orion costs $3300.00 new, no tuner and no additional 1st IF roofing
filters.
The stock Orion comes with 1st IF roofing filters at; 20k, 6k, 2.4k and 1k.
Additional roofing filters can be purchased from TT or Inrad. In addition, the
Orion has 2 independent fully programmable receivers that operate on any ham
band and frequency. Great for DXing.
If you order the Orion with the built in antenna tuner, your getting the
best. The tuner will tune up a set of bed springs. I think the tuner costs about
$250 additional.

TT offers their equipment based on a no questions asked 30 day return
policy. I don't know if Icom or its dealers has the same policy.

I own a 756Proll and really like it for the colorful display. I don't use it
any more since buying the Orion almost a year ago. It spends all of its time
under a dust cover.

I also own a TT Orion, I'm here to tell ya, its the best receiver on the
planet. Don't take my word for it though, give it a try. If you don't like the
rig....send it back and buy a Prolll.

If you should decide to purchase an Orion, send me an email with your phone
number on it and I'll help you set it up.
