[ICOM] Battery Needed

Have the local hams considered creating access tones or touch-tones to
activate and de-activate the repeaters? There is obviously no easy solution
if you are trying to block truckers, but since most truckers are from
out-of-town, you might try some of the following tricks...

Setup a tone access. Let everyone know that you will be changing the tone
each week. This week it is 88.5, next week it will be 123, etc. There is
also the possibility that you could require an access key to enable the
repeater for half an hour, for example, send 123 on a touch pad and the
repeater is up for 30 minutes. 321 and it only listens for the 123 tones.

Obviously and inconvenience, but you are inconvenienced already.

Just a thought.

Hi Group,

As to worth, I guess I was thinking about the multi featured HT"s that are
being sold brand new for 89.00.

There is very little 2M by hams in this area and I probably haven't spent 30
min on VHF in my life.

I did order a new battery case for NiCad's today for about 22.00,

Now to satisfy those that are wondering about the 2M by hams in the area,
there are Truckers and similar types using 2M (unlicensed) around these
parts so several of the repeaters have been turned off.

I must admit that this 02 is mint, not a mark on it and the plastic covering
never had been removed... Also it is big enough that my old numb fingers and
poor eyes could still use..
