I almost duplicated Macs setup with the 706 and 2720. I mounted the 706
head  on the front of the ashtray (removed the original ashtray front)in
my '02 Chevy Silverado then attached the 2720 head to the top of the 706
head by using some straight brackets purchased from Lowes to tie the two
head mounts together. The bodies of both went under the back seat. The
radios worked fine for years until the transmit driver transistor went out
in the 2720. This is a known issue with this radio. In my case, Icom fixed
it for free even though it was out of warranty. Merry Christmas.
