Rather than shorten the antenna up, why not just fold it back
towards the ends and it should still work ok. Fern

Subject: RE: [ICOM] AH-4 help
My thanks to all who made suggestions. I'm only
considering the AH-4, and now other models, for
my situation. The biggest negative with the AH-4
is that the antenna wire would have to be
directly above the power lines that feed the next door neighbor.
I'm considering mounting a mast on the roof using
a suggestion I found on eham.com. The guy came up
with the idea of sliding some Sched-40 pvc piping
into a breather pipe on the roof. I could then
use the dipole attached to mast. Of course I'll
put guy ropes to the roof facia for stability.
My antenna is a 90 foot B&W wide-band folded
dipole which has been very reliable for me. My
roof is only 62 feet so I contacted B&W and
queried them about reducing the length of the
antenna. Their response was quick & the only
affect of shortening the antenna is the raising
of the lowest frequency of operation.
Again - thanks
