[ICOM] IC761 on PSK

I am just getting started on PSK using my IC761 with a RASCAL
unit. It seems to be working ok but I find that I am unable to get 
sufficient audio drive into the rig without switching in the speech 
processor. I know that  they say this should be not used but without it 
in I can only get about 5-10 watts output.  With it in  I can drive it 
up to about 55 watts out. A local station has listened to my signal and 
has told me it is clean so the processor is not creating a problem in 
that way.
As far as I can see using the Accessory 1 jack that the MIC preamp is 
bypassed including the Mic Gain control.
Is there something else that I should be doing???
I am making some contacts ok so it seems to be working reasonably well 
as is but would appreciate ay input that anyone has to offer, thanks.
