I'd rather have the one from S'pore because in the USA, the FCC is making
ICOM take away the ability to use the radio as a "TV" receiver for fear that
someone might turn it on in the front seat of the car when the driver is
driving.

I think it would be wonderful to have as a portable radio - or a "nightstand
radio" - it will receive AM/FM/SW - ham bands - and the Singapore version
will receive PAL and NTSC.

I like that feature! I wonder if it will pick up Ham TV on 432 MHz?

And will it only work on 144-146 for 2m and 430-440 for 70CM? That would
really be fine anyway since that is where the real action is VHF wise.

Um, before you plunk down the money for it, it might be a good
idea to make sure that Icom America will service it. I also wonder
if there are any FCC type acceptance issues?

I bought a new 706g in Tokyo when they first came out. Only on the flight
home, did I realize there IS a difference between the "Japaneese & European"
models versus the "USA versions". The non-US radios, do not use the top 1/2
of
the 2 Meter band. I was able to modify mine by removing some of the steering
diodes. My radio now recieves all of 2 Meters but will NOT transmit on the
top
2 Mhz. This doesn't matter to me since I have a ton of other 2 Meter FM
radios.

It appears that the radios use different processors and simply removing
diodes ain't gonna be all that's required.

My 756PRO (also purchased in Tokyo) was identical to the USA models EXCEPT
it WILL re-transmit audio recorded over the air. This feature was added in
the
PRO II or III.
So I guess mine is a PRO 1.5.... ha ha
