[ICOM] 706MkIIG VHF Xmit Problem.

Thought I'd follow up on the "resolution" to the below problem that I
posted last week. I hooked the radio to a dummy load and got the
same problem. While on the dummy load I hooked the radio to a
different power supply (30 amps). Still couldn't transmit on 2m
without momentarily shutting of the radio. Temporarily defeated I
hooked the radio back up to the original power supply. For chuckles
I keyed the mike. Lo and behold, the radio worked just fine on
2m. Why? I don't know. I'm not ignoring my good fortune..hi..hi.

Thanks to those that offered suggestions.

I've had a 706MkIIG in my car for a couple of years. Since I don't
travel in my work anymore it was overkill so this last weekend I took
it out. I set it up in the shack. It transmits fine on HF and UHF,
but now won't transmit on 2 meters. Whenever I key the mike the
radio shuts off momentarily. Kind of like it does whenever you have
high SWR on HF. I've tried a couple of different 2m antennas with
the same result. The odd thing is that it will transmit on UHF with
the 2m-only antenna without shutting off. BTW, I had a tri-band
antenna on the car and the radio performed fine on 2m the last time I
used it there. I hope that it isn't a worse case scenario in that
the VHF final is bad, but when I look at the block diagram the UHF
side apparently uses the same final. Anybody got any solutions for this?

Thanks.
