[ICOM] Separates

Hi Bob,
When I got the 920 it didn't transmit and I was hoping a connector or
something wasn't good. I pulled the cabinet off and reset all the
connections that I could find but it didn't make any difference. I didn't go
any further as I don't see that well anymore and could tell that it was
beyond me. I think I told you I had a ham friend that did do surface mount
repairs and was really good on radio repair (and he didn't charge me, hi)
but he's no longer available. I was hoping I could have him repair it for me
as I really wanted to keep it even thou I didn't need it.
I'm sure the service manual is available from Yaesu or on the internet.
I haven't looked but I think most can be downloaded for free. I downloaded
the owner's manual & service manual for the Kenwood TM-9130 about 8 month's
ago but I don't remember were I found it thou.
Maybe the finals are bad and that shouldn't be hard to replace but I'm
not sure because I get some output but not much. I would think if the finals
were gone it would be just dead. I wouldn't really know how to troubleshoot
them to tell. I was a tech back in the 60's but was trained on early
computers so could fix a "old" power supply or a "flip/flop" transistor
circuit if you know what that is.
I think if you know how to troubleshoot radio circuits and can work on
the small stuff if needed, you could have a really nice rig. It looks almost
new and the receive is very good.

I was for many years and still am an electronics
engineering technologist so I know how to do the work
(some of it gov certified).
I have just never seen the inside of one of these but have
*heard* from others that it is "all" surface mount stuff -
if you have seen it and worked on it - I will take your
word for it and look into it.
I appreciate you telling me all of this, I know the
quality of my work has always been seen as very good by
all those who I did work for - so I am confident I could
to do given the proper tools of the trade, my only concern
was "can I" LOL.
Can the service manual be gotten for one of these in pdf
form or do you have to buy one?

Code may be taking a back seat for now,
but the pioneering spirit that put the code
there in the first place is out front of it all.
