[ICOM] 756 Tested

Hi Hans,

I am finding that with the IC-756Pro3, I can leave the RF preamp off in
almost all situations.

Especially on the lower bands, the band noise is 10 to 12 dB above the
receiver noise floor with the preamp off. The reduction in system NF with
the preamp is thus of no benefit in these cases. The preamp will only cause
the front end to overload earlier.

Here is an operating tip for the lower bands:

Cheers for now, 73,

Impressive.

For example: http://www.w8ji.com/receiver%20IM3%20sorted.htm
where W8JI writes: "3.) You use too much gain in the receiver front end."

Many operators use their pre-amplifier(s) too often.

I only use them on 14 MHz and higher; if really necessary.

On 1.8, 3.6 and 7 MHz I only use Attenuation... In crowded Europe this is 'a
must'.
