Hi Bob,
I am very pleased that the 756Pro info was helpful.
On the IC-728: The stock IF filters are the FL-30 at 9 MHz and the FL-65
ceramic filter at 455 kHz. The filter and BFO switching is configured to
select the optional filter slot, with the correct carrier insertion point,
only in CW mode.
One could retrofit a better 455 kHz CW filter such as the Inrad 109, but
this would require removing the FL-65 and performing some mechanical
gyrations to mount the much larger filter.
I have owned an IC-728 and an IC-729 in the past, and found their SSB
filtering to be adequate for casual operation. The PBT is certainly a great
help. If you do not already have one of these radios, and are looking for
better SSB selectivity, the IC-718 is a better choice as it will accept a
variety of optional SSB or CW filters. The 718 has only one optional filter
slot, so you would need to decide CW or SSB.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Yes it did thank you very much Adam.
So what does this mean exactly, I guess I am in denial.
Does this mean that the SSB is as good as it gets, there
is no additional filtering except for the PASSBAND tuning
or does the FL-101 affect both modes.
Can't image how it could affect both modes - but it makes
just as little sense that it would not offer an optional
SSB filter if it offers an optional CW filter.
