I've had the AH-2 and AH-4 for many years and
they've been on a pole at eye level. They have
a good gasket all around the lid. The trick is
to get the coax and the control cable in without
leaving space. I use Goop (tm) and that works
very well. They can be mounted inside the vehicle
as long as the inside part of the antenna is not
more than two inches at the most. This is because
you don't want a lumped-constant capacitor hanging
on the output of the AH-4, which is what you'll
get if you run the antenna very far inside the
vehicle. (There's a small screw with a gasket on
the bottom of the AH-4. There's where you can check
for water like the airplane people do. I've never
found any.)
I've had three troubles with AH-2 and AH-4: (1) the
voltage regulator failed, (2) inductor relays had
one failure. RS has clone. (3) lightning strike
took out the CPU.
