a service manual for the IC-730 at home and will
look up the part number when I get home late

Dave, thanks for the reply, esp. the info about tightening screws.  I'll 
check that while the rig is apart.  I know the pot is bad and does need 
replacement.  I've emailed Icom and am awaiting a reply.  Hopefully the part 
is available from them.
