Bill,

The OPC-478 programming cable uses the Ring and Sleeve for programming not
the Tip and Sleeve 2 conductor connector that works with your 756ProII.
You could build a small convertor the chance that or add another cable to
you 756ProII cable. I have an OPC-478 that has 3 connections on it, 3
conductor phone plug, RJ-45 and the old F30 series connector.
Also as Fern mentioned sometimes the computer is to fast for the dos based
programming software. But more likely Windows XP does not like to
relinquish port control to any
software. I have read and experienced that with a small home controller
software package. If you don't have one, download a Win 98 boot disk and
try that.

Also before you do anything to the F420 READ !!!! the transceiver. There
is hidden data within the transceiver that if you have not downloaded it
you will never get the F420 programmed.
This hidden data is not in the software as it boots up. I do not remember
any buttons to place thew F420 into cloning mode. Looking at the software
help system might tell you that. Seems to me the F420 sees the computer one
it is connected and the software tries to read the radio.
