Hi Jan,

On my side of the Atlantic, we call that a preselector.

One of the finest examples of this approach was the old Telefunken E52
"Koeln" receiver, designed in 1940 for the German military. It had an active
preselector with 5 tuned stages and 2 RF amplifiers.
