The ARRL test are valid if used properly. They use the same set of tests on 
each radio. Therefore you can compare the spec's as to how they perform in a 
lab environment and head to head. They allow comparing older radios to newer 
ones and new to new.

With that said ARRL sells advertising and when you read the test you have to 
ignore the written evaluation, just look at the test itself. Compare the 
results line for line and make your own decision.
