Take a small length of shield braid from RG-58
(preferably silver, but not mandatory) and
sweat solder it across the gap!

Good luck and 73 --- Mac, K2GKK/5

Subject: [ICOM] Icom W-32A BNC connector design flaw
Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2004 02:22:41 -0500

I seem to have encountered a fairly common IC W-32A flaw...the "ground"
connection from the outside of the BNC connector to the PC board has about a
millimeter gap in it...probably from the connector moving around too much.

It's not worth sending the radio back since it's over 7 years old (bought it
when W-32A was the "new" thing.)

So I'm pondering having a local tech or two look it over -- and pondering
whether or not to buy a new one.

Has Icom "hardened" the BNC connections (ground and center) since the early
days?
