Duane,

Many companies carry the female lighter socket you could add wires to and 
attach to the power supply. Radio Shack might have them. I suspect Mouser 
Electronics, Digikey and Jameco Electronics also may. I don't have the 
catalogs handy. You might also find a socket at your favorite auto parts 
store.

I think all the cigar lighter part of the cable has is the fuse in it. It may 
not even have that as there is a nice box for the DC to DC converter in the 
cable that could contain a fuse too.

So you should be able to trim off the lighter plug, just be sure to replace a 
same size fuse inline, in the positive lead if it was contained in the 
lighter plug.

Lastly there are some power supplies made with built in lighter sockets, I am 
pretty sure Radio Shack carries one. something that can do over 3 amps and is 
regulated will do.
