You are right John, my first message implied connecting 12 volts directly 
to the radio. Generally there would be a cable used in this case it has to 
be the CP-19 with a built in regulator.
Anyway we are on the same page. Manual states that  USING a CP-19 you can 
connect a 11.5 to 16 volt supply, BUT YOU must use a CP-19. Nothing over 
11.5 volts must ever be directly connected to the radio.
Anyway its all on Page 16 of the instruction manual for the T-90A
