Gary,
You misunderstood. The noise is not being GENERATED by the radio. It's the
radio's noise floor that's the problem. The radio is picking up ambient
noise, noise that most other radios don't hear. I've substituted an IC-735
and a Yaesu FT-100D and neither radio picks up the noise that the MKIIG
does. For example, with the 735 in place in the mobile, the ambient noise
with the vehicle running is slightly above one S-unit. With the 706MKIIG in
place, same conditions, same connections, the noise is a solid S-7. Similar
results with the FT-100D, slightly over one S-unit.

In the mobile application, Bob may be correct,
although I know a number of hams who run the 706 MKIIG
mobile and love it. I have a MKIIG and a 746 Pro that
I use for base station operation. I have tried the
clear speech product and have seen no positive results
from it; in fact, I feel like I wasted my money. I
wish I could help you on the noise problem; I have a
hard time believing that the noise is being generated
by the radio. If that was the case, wouldn't you have
the same problem anywhere you tried to use it?
