[ICOM] Icom 756 on 60 meters

John,
My 756 did not operate very well when mod'd for TX on 60M. I found that the
power was down substantially on and around the 60M channels. The power out
was down from 100W to 35W-50W depending on what channel was used. In
addition to the power degradation, the ALC and 12VDC current were also
affected adversely. The ALC went to zero and the input current droped to
about 13 amps. It am guessing that the 80M filter, which I think the 756
uses at these frequencies, does not work well in this frequency range. I
will send you a spreadsheet of the detailed data I took from my 756 in a
separate email if you like, but in short, the power starts degrading at
about 4.4 MHz and finally takes a steep dive at 5.1 MHz. It gets down to
about 2 watts at just below 6 MHz. Then, when the radio switches from the
80M filter to the 40M filter at 6 MHz, the power comes back up to 100W.
That said, I did make a single QSO on 60M and the other station gave me
decent audio and signal reports.

Subject: [ICOM] Icom 756 on 60 meters
Has anyone tried using an Icom 756 on 60 meters, and
what were the results. It seems that I remember there
was some problems with running the 746 or 746 PRO on
60 meters. Does the 756 have the same problems. This
is the 756AMATEUR not the PRO models.
