[ICOM] PR 780 Microphone

Bob winds his own bobins for his dynamic elements!

Try making a microphone, you'll find out how difficult it is to have one
that REALLY sounds good.

On the other hand, a homemade condenser microphone (using a thin home made
condenser (capacitor) that functions as a sound gathering transducer, is
much easier - no winding.

I am not suggesting Bob pays $1.75,,,, I have no clue what he pays..
I know you can buy great electrets, with broad band audio.. and then you
have to tailor the freq response like that of a shure 444, a rising high
end, either mechanically or electronically.\

It looks like the yaesu mic has a 'tunable' chamber, which alters the
response curve of the mic by opening / closing access to the back & sides
of the element. One of my icom electrets , is "modified" by covering up
the ports on the back & sides of the gooseneck mic, causing the low freqs
to cutoff... leaving an elevated hi freq response. try it ... while
listening on another receiver..
At the same time you can make things sound terrible,,,, but it costs
nothing to mess with it.,.,...

My Elecraft k2 is wired for a Icom mic, so I can use these electrets across
all my HF radios,,,,
