[ICOM] FT-9000 - Hello ICOM!

Is there any indication that ICOM and/or Yaesu
radios plan to offer capability for software
tweaks and downloads?

Pointing out an obvious marketing technique widely
used in the computer industry is "sour grapes"?
Get a grip Bill.

And, of course, some will be willing to wait
perhaps a year to get the new Yaesu. What
enhancements will the 7800 have by then? Radios
are now like computers--you are trying to hit a
moving target, benefiting all consumers with
constant upgrades. It is too bad the market is too
small to get any meaningful economies of scale so
prices would take dramatic drops as well.

Why the sour grapes, Andy? I own Yaesu, Icom
and Kenwood radios and am interested in ALL the
new rigs - even those I would never purchase.
Obviously, the new Yaesu isn't a pipe dream. I
really don't care when it becomes available, since
I would rather have $10k tied up in 4 nice radios,
than one giant rig - regardless of brand.

Lighten up. And I agree with you about the
extra 200 watts for $3000...

  Bill

    Hi Bill-

As a lawyer I know that "it is supposed to be
available for sale in Japan by the end of this
year" is pure unattributed speculation or
"hearsay". And that speculation itself begs the
question of when the radio might be for sale in
the US doesn't it? Sometime in 2005? Maybe.

BTW, $3,000 for an additional 200 watts is
pretty pricey, isn't it? I think I could get a
pretty good 1,500 watt amp for $3,000.
