I agree with you, Joe. I work for a TV station and our 1000' tower 
regularly gets
blasted. At most we have to reset a circuit breaker. A really well 
grounded tower
is your first defense. Complete and total disconnection of your Icom 
radios and
their peripherals may be the second best alternative, as inconvenient as 
that is.
