Mine did this -- don't know about the heat part, radio was/is under a seat
... it was a poor connection on the remote cable... drove me nutz! Easy
fix, once known .. was on the radio end. Mark, AA6DX

Subject: [Icom] IC-706 shut down

While on dxpedition to T7 and IS0 my ICOM IC-706MKIIG stated shutting down
on it's own while in the transmit mode. After operating for a short period
of time it just shut down as if you turned the power switch off. It then
would come back on and continue transmitting. This continued and each shut
down took longer to come back on. I first thought it was common to RTTY when
I was using MMTTY at 100 watts. But I went to PSK-31 running 25 watts and
it would do the same. Also would shut down on SSB. The radio felt pretty
hot. My friend loaned me another 706 and it worked just fine using the same
operating conditions and arrangement. Prior to this trip I have only used
the radio on two other dxpeditions.
Any help?
