Well, you might have been on the right track, but you took the spur
instead of the main line...
Take a look at the voltage at the INSIDE of the power connector. These
pins often lose their spring and then make poor contact. The additional
current required during transmit will lower the voltage enough so that
the set just dies. Might also find the same problem across the fuse(s).
